Dr Samir Alamad – UK

Chairman of the Advisory Board

Dr Samir Alamad is a highly qualified expert in the Islamic banking and finance industry and is a published author. He has a track record of Islamic finance and Sharia governance and compliance expertise in developing and structuring Sharia-compliant financial products of all types. As an academic, he also possesses a scholarly knowledge of finance, Sharia, Islamic economics and jurisprudence, Islamic Commercial Law, and an in-depth experience in audit and financial services. Dr Alamad is an AAOIFI (Accounting and Auditing Organisation for Islamic Financial Institutions) Certified Sharia Advisor and Auditor (CSAA). He has worked extensively with and has been advising successive British governments and the Islamic finance industry in the UK and beyond to advance Islamic finance. Additionally, he is an Islamic finance advisor to various institutions globally. Dr Alamad is also a lecturer at the University of Birmingham and other academic institutions and has advised academic institutions on structuring courses and academic modules for various university programmes. He is a regular speaker at international conferences, has delivered numerous lectures and has taken part in many TV and radio shows.

Sheikh Mohammed is an Imam with extensive knowledge of Sharia and Fiqh. He has worked as the head of the Saudi school and is the Imam of Al-Furqan mosque.

Dr Nunung Nurul Hidayah – Indonesia

Nurul is an Associate Professor in accounting at Southampton Business School. She was previously a lecturer at Aston Business School, with extensive knowledge of Islamic accounting. Prior to that, she spent 10 years at University of Al Azhar Indonesia as both a lecturer and the Head of Accounting Department. Nurul has also been involved in curriculum development in Islamic finance, Islamic accounting and IFRS based accounting curriculum for University of Al Azhar Indonesia and the Postgraduate Islamic Finance Program (approved by The Scottish Qualification Authority) of Al Maktoum Institute Dundee.

Mohd Zubir bin Awang is Chairman of the Sharia Committee of Investment Bank in Malaysia. Registered as Shariah adviser of the Securities Commission Malaysia, and is a member of the Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance. Prior to this, he had served in both fields academic and industry.
